Deadliest Catch Alaskan Storm
Sets Sail on Xbox 360

06/17/08

The Discovery Channel's highest-rated series, Deadliest Catch, officially set sail as an Xbox 360 videogame today, as "Deadliest Catch Alaskan Storm" has shipped for Xbox 360. A PC version of the game will release soon.

Sig, Edgar and Norman Hansen -- three brothers who have made their living crab fishing on the Bering Sea aboard their family's fishing vessel, the Northwestern -- invited key development team members to Dutch Harbor, Alaska, to personally experience life on the Northwestern. This experience helped the dev team boost the game's realism and make sure to include four real Bering Sea harbors and 34,000 miles of real Alaskan coastline.

And, since the dev team knew we were all going to fail and die at sea, Deadliest Catch Alaskan Storm is the first game to feature United States Coast Guard vessels and helicopters. You know, to find our digital bodies....

Deadliest Catch Alaskan Storm lets gamers captain their own boat in the frenzied search for King and Opilio crab. Gamers select one of five real crab boats, including the Northwestern, Cornelia Marie and Sea Star, or create and customize their own boat. Gamers then recruit and manage their own crew from a roster of 20 real crab fishermen.

In addition to this Career Mode, Deadliest Catch Alaskan Storm on Xbox 360 includes mini-games such as crab boat races, skiff races and throw-the-hook; and online multiplayer for up to eight people via Xbox Live (to see who can catch the most crab).

I'd bet this is a very cool game!
Alas, I still have my Atari from the good ol' days, so there's no Xbox in my house.

I'm old-school  LMAO

That would make a good episode.  Crab boat olympics.

For games...do you remember "haunted house", where you had to go thru the haunted house and pick up the certain artifacts, all the while avoiding the ghosts? I had that one too  Cheesy

Just a quick note:

Tonight on "After the Catch" (which shows after "Deadliest Catch"), they will be spending quite a bit of time talking to Capt. Phil about his health issues.

Thought I'd mention it, incase anyone wanted to see it Wink

Tali ... I got THE DEADLIEST CATCH season 3 for my birthday ........   booyah!  Outstanding!  booyah!

I watched it through once already.  Loved all the CG SAR footage.  The CG was really busy during season 3.  The fleet raked in some big catches of King Crab despite some problems with some of the boats.  I definitely prefer Jonathan to Andy as the skipper of the Time Bandit.  IMO .. Andy takes some unnecessary chances with the vessel and her crew.  I was glad for Jon when the Time Bandit was able to rescue that crewman from another crab boat that fell overboard.  Brought him some redemption from the previous incident when the fisherman was pulled over the rail dead.  No wonder Phil's blood pressure is through the roof, he's got both his boys on the deck now.  That would raise anybodys blood pressure especially when you loose a third of one of your screw blades that were just reworked before the season started.

The Opie season was a really tough season for the men and the boats.  Heavy seas with heavy icing, engine problems, ice flow encounters, broken down fish processor and rookies walking off the deck.  I couldn't help but pull for Jake, the rookie on the Northwestern.  The kid has a lot of spunk and determination and won the respect of Sig and the rest of the crew.  I hope the kid will be back at some point.  In spite of the problems the fleet encountered they made some huge catches of Opies.
