Hey Bugsey,
I was just kidding about the bondo on the hull. It's pretty obvious you are going to great lengths to get the boat properly restored.
great job. Keep the pics coming!

Cleveland Station or whatever was "streamlined" or "art deco" or something, wonder if it still looks like that? I think the Raritan used to be based there too.

That is the old station - the new one is at the end of East Ninth - the old one did look art-deco - you used to be able to get to it rather easy from down town, that is until the state told the railroad that they needed to put lights and a gate at the crossing which was mostly used by the station, what the state wanted was rather expensive so the railroad which owned the land on both sides of the tracks closed the crossing -after that we had to go another mile down to the yacht club exit, drive thru their parking lot and drive along side the tracks on a gravel road for about a mile. The Raritan was at Milwaukee from 63-72 and then crossed the lake to Grand Haven where she stayed until 79, the Kaw was the 110 out of Cleveland. The 40555 or triple nickel was at Erie when I was at Cleveland in 68.

The one Forty boat says "Station Santa Rosa, CA....that one has to be a "sea story", Santa Rosa, CA is LANDLOCKED!
From the picture though, it looks like where they used to have a 40 boat at Air Station San Francisco....that's a could be..... There was also another station in Drakes Bay, just north of the Golden Gate Bridge....don't think they had 40's though...since there was no dock there, they had to haul out the boat on to the marine rail way........

Thanks Zoomer, I'm glad you cleared that up for me. The photo just said Santa Rosa so now I know .. it's Santa Rosa, Florida not Cal.

Maybe Santa Rosa, Florida can use some Mexicans....Santa Rosa, CA is overpopulated with 'em....of course, then, maybe they would want to export some Cubans....Catch 22

I loved those 40-boats. I qualified as cox'n on a 40 when I was at CGAS San Diego. Probably the only YN you know who was also a cox'n. One of the 40s at San Diego was wooden, the other steel. The wooden boat could run circles around the steel hull.
Here's what I came up with concerning the boats I knew:
Boats @ Charlevoix:
44376
40527
Boats @ CGAS San Diego
40580
40414
Boats at Mackinac Island:
40561
36521
There was also an old 25-footer at Cheboygan LAS in Michigan's Group Charlevoix. That was the boat I described in my story, "A Day Away From the Paperwork" at Jack's Joint.
I also ran a glass 30-boat in Detroit one time. I went there for a surgery at the USPHS hospital, and the boat crew picked me up when I got in town. That was at about 1300 hours, and we didn't get back to the station until after midnight. But that's another story...

I ran the 40458 and the 40509 out of Belle Isle in 62-64. We also had a glass 30 when they first came out. Loved the 40's.
I brought the 40509 down to Belle Isle from Tawas. We had follow seas all the way down lake Huron. Never worked so hard keeping a boat going straight.
My last fall at Belle isle I was XO on the house boat at Grosse Ilse Naval Air Station. I think we had the 40509 there.

I was at Sta St Joseph Mi, the 40499 in the 2nd set of fotos was there as well. That pic was right before my time there(77-81). We "outprocessed" quite a few of the 40's thru St Joe(we had a big boathouse W/marine railway, could hold 3- 40's), they all went to either the city of milwaukee or chicago, park & rec, PD, FD.
What a great boat, 1st CG small boat I qualed as coxswain on(was an MK witha coxswain pin, as were most of the MK's at the unit), MANY hours spent(not as coxswain obviousily) laying on the doghouse staring up at the night sky on the venerable "flare sighting" searches, which for some reason St Joe used to have ALOT of. Maybe something ta do with the flight patterns in and out of O'hare, but we did LOTS of 'em.
I live in Hull Mass now and theres an old 40 boat for sale right down by the CG Sta( At Joes Nautical Bar if anybody was ever @ "PA" and remembers), kinda rough but its there if anyones interested. I was vetoed by the boss when I brought up buying it!!!-JRC
