Way back when, one of my Dad's friends was a U-2 driver... I remember what he told me when I asked him how high he flew... He said, "I can't tell you, but I can say I know the Earth is round..."

When I was at Osan I used to marvel when they took off and landed.

On take off they would pull up into a steep flight climb and just disappear.

U-2 units had special Chevy El-Caminos with a lot of horse power under the hood.  A ground crew person would be harnessed in to the cargo bay with the outrigger pogo wheels and go racing after the U-2 upon landing so they could connect the pogos to the wing tips to prevent it from tipping over sideways when the wings lost lift.
