Buoy-

For the bottom pic, I do believe it is an undress blue jumper.  Remember, the undress blues did not have the button cuff.  The pic doesn't look like that jumper has the button cuffs.  Also, the stripe on the jumper in the lower pic........it appears top come way up on the shoulder, as opposed to a zipper which stopped right under the armpit.  Kinda hard to say for sure, but that's my guess and I'm sticking to it......

OK, editing the above.  I looked at the ad and since it doesn't mention both a dress and undress jumper then you may be right, it could be the dress jumper inside out.  I can't imagine that if it were two jumpers the ad wouldn't say so.  No idea why they would take the pic of an inside out jumper though......

HEY!!! I got it!!!! Buoy......go ahead and buy the outfit and you can let us k now the answer!   ROTF ROTF

IMO, I don't think so Stan.  I saved what appears to be the undress blues and when I magnified it, you can somewhat make out the stitching for the underside of the cuff piping plus the underside of the collar piping.

EX and Buoy - I believe that prior to the 60's [don't know how long though] "undress blues were just 'dress blues' without the neckerchief.  While I was in 61-65, 'undress blues had no cuffs nor piping and you didn't wear the neckerchief.  None of the whites had piping and the only way you went from undress whites to dress whites was add the neckerchief.  In about 63 [?] they authorized the white 'button' short sleeve shirts to be worn as undress uniforms only.

Tropical Whites - During my time and in that part of the world, slap on a flat hat and a ribbon rack and you were in dress uniform  Grin

That's the way it was from 58 to 62.

Even though they could be worn on liberty, I don't think the whites with a neckerchief were called "dress whites."

From a listing of Nov.1959 US Navy uniforms, and CG uniform regs were the same, with a few minor CG specific items.

Full Dress Blue B - Service Dress Blue B - Undress Blue Working ( read in one Coastguardsmans Manual that Full & Service Dress Blue A was with the blue flat hat.

Full Dress Whites - Service Dress Whites - Undress White working - Tropical White Long ( the shirt collar was different from the new shirt authorized about '63

CPOs were still wearing Dungaree working.

I gotta stop saving this old stuff,

Masters Mate,  and everybody.

A question.

I am a wartime rating in the Coast Guard.   I could be a Chief, 1st, 2nd or 3rd Class Petty Officer.  My rating designator was the letter D inside a Diamond.  At my peak there were 675 members in my rating.

WHAT'S my Name????????

George is pretty close to target. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

The folks who trained Coast Guard Dog and Horse Beach Patrol Members, were rated as Specialist, Domestic Animal.

The Rating Badge was the Letter D, within the Diamond.  At the height  of the war, there were 675 rated Specialists serving.

gjd,

No takers, I guess, the Warrant was the Sailmaker. I don't know what the lozenge or diamond shape represented.

The "Mickey Mouse" looking specialty mark is the Closed Clew Iron of the Sailmakers Mate. Here's an illustration of what it was used for.

I didn't know about the Sailmakers Mate. Interesting.

I could imagine the Warrant Sailmaker specialty mark representing some kind of stitch, but I don't know. . .

When I was on Eagle (61/62) the designated "sailmaker" was BM! John Paul Jones (no kidding!). Great guy. I understand he spent the whole Fall, Winter and Spring (when Eagle was taken out of commission) in the "Sail Locker" (on the top floor of one of the buildings on base) doing just that. This loft was full of canvas -- some of it still left over from when we took Eagle from the Germans, and below decks was full of canvas and other peripherals when it sailed to the States.

Over at the other place, the RM/TC & RD/OS types get into occasional pizzing contests about the sparks vs the scope.

I wonder if they'd develop a case of the green apple quick step if they knew just how close they really were up until 1948.
