Its name is very old, dating back to at least 1000 AD, There are many theories, but no one really knows for sure how, why and where its name originated. The Romans valued it for its supposed medicinal properties, such as healing loose teeth and treating stomach problems.
Native to both Europe and the Americas, today this fruit is cultivated in the U.S. from Alaska to Florida, but it is rarely cultivated from seed. The U.S. produces 75% of the world's crop, and it is an important crop in Canada, Australia, Japan, and parts of Africa.
This fruit is technically an enlarged pulpy receptacle bearing numerous achenes, or in other words an aggregate of numerous nutlets distributed on an enlarged, pulpy, scarlet receptacle. It is 90% water and contains more vitamin C than an equal quantity of lemons or oranges.
Name this fruit.

How about Strawberry?
I am native to the tropical parts of the Americas, and was domesticated there at least 5000 years ago. I spread very early throughout the region, including the Caribbean, and I was also known before western exploration in Polynesia. How exactly I arrived there is the subject of fierce debate. In the United States, North Carolina is the leading state in my production, providing close to 40% of the 2007 U.S. production, but China is the largest grower, producing about 80% of the world's supply. In 1992, the Center for Science in the Public Interest compared my nutritional value to other vegetables. Considering fiber content, complex carbohydrates, protein, vitamins A and C, iron, and calcium, I ranked highest in nutritional value of all vegetables. Despite the implication of my name, I may be a beneficial food for diabetics, as preliminary studies on animals have revealed that I help to stabilize blood sugar levels and to lower insulin resistance. I am most frequently boiled, fried, or baked, and I am a traditional part of at least one holiday meal in the United State.
What vegetable am I?

Hot damn! I got one...What do I win?
I'm a dark dark eggplant-colored favorite. Usually packed in olive oil or vinegar, and are frequently slit so they absorb the flavor of the wine vinegar marinade in which they are soaked. I have a rich and fruity flavor. Used in salads, recipes or as a snack. I'm sometimes named after my home of origin.

Picking up a theme here:
I am the unusual fruit of a small oriental tree related to the Magnolia tree, and an ingredient of the traditional five-spice powder of Chinese cooking. I am also one of the ingredients used to make Vietnamese phở. I am the secret ingredient in many Indian stews and curries, and I am used in baking as well as in liquor production -- most distinctively in the production of the liquor
Galliano.
I am not the same as my similar cousin from Japan, which is not edible because it is highly toxic and, instead, has been burned as incense there. Apart from my use in cooking, Mandarins used to chew the whole dried fruit as a breath freshener, and I was used for other medicinal purposes such as in the treatment of colic, flatulence and nausea.
What am I?

Yep!
In 1922, a Macedonian immigrant, Tom Athanas Kiradjieff settled in this city with his brother, John. He opened a hot dog stand, and sold hot dogs and Greek food. He did a lousy business because, at that time, the large majority of the inhabitants of the city were of German heritage, and nobody in the area knew anything about Greek food, and weren't thrilled by it.
So he took a Greek stew, maintained the Mediterranean spices of Cinnamon and Cloves, changed the meat to ground beef, added other spices to the mix and began to sell this stew over spaghetti. It proved to be a successful experiment. He also came up with the idea of selling his dish in 'ways', which is also unique to the area. (Two Way, Three Way, Four Way and Five Way.) For some, this dish is an acquired taste, while for others it is love at first bite.
1. What city is this?
2. What is the dish?

That would be:
1. Cincinnati
2. Cincinnati Chili - which is almost as nearly related to chili as tube steak is to steak.

You're right, Jerry.....
And I agree it's not chili, per se, but it's interesting.
One might say,
"Cincinnati Chili is to Chili, what White Castle Hamburgers are to Hamburgers"
OK, so long as one doesn't pretend they are what they're not.
Of course, the people there say it was the first Chili -- long before the Southwestern kind.
