Let's kick this thing off.

There is talk of the Reserve IV program becoming a Warrant-based program, just like the Active-side of the house.

I suggested the current unfilled IV billets (according to the RPAL) be converted to INV billets and filled through the normal Reserve Warrant process.

Thoughts?

Jerry,
What is the process for an Army MP with investigative experience and 7 years of service, to join the CG Inv program?

CGIS has three types of agents:  Active Duty, Reserve, and Civilian.

Each has a different process.  Civilians are hired through OPM.  There a currently a number of civilian openings around the country.  Check out USAJOBS.gov under "criminal investigator."  GS-13 is the usual starting salary.

AD military agents have to be an E-6 to apply, of any rating, with at least 30 semester hours of college.  After two years in the program, they can apply for an INV Warrant agent position.  The Active side of the house is a Warrant-based program.

The Reserve Investigators (IV) come into the program as either an IV3/E4 or IV2/E5.  A rate determination package is sent to CGIS HQ for that determination upon enlistment or lateral from someone already a reservist of another rating.  Reserve agents are academy-certified local, county, state, or federal LEOs with at least three years full-time experience, preferably with investigative experience.  Unfortunately, the Reserve Program is currently NOT a Warrant based program.  I am only one of four Reserve Warrant agents in the program.

I hope this helped to answer some of your questions.
