Here's the story; I've got a 20 year old nephew (almost 21) who's decided that he'd like to follow in his uncle's footsteps and join the Guard.  Here's the catch; like all kids, he had a small problem, DUI at 18, this is the only blemish the kid's got.  Recruiter told him that this puts him out of the running; is this true   Have already got some inputs from friends (thanks Zoomer  ), but would like to get some more advice on how the kid can get around this.  ****, it's like the Good Conduct medal, difference between the haves and the have nots is that the have nots got caught  Hammer  Grin

What I've heard is a DUI under 21= no chance. DUI over 21= probably SOL, unless the guy upstairs likes you.

Take it with a grain of salt. It's just what I've heard.

What do you mean by results   Pretty cut and dried, no accident, nobody hurt, got his license suspended for a year.  The dummies were having a party at one of the older dummie's apartments, got a bit noisy, cops came to break up the party and told them all to go home, and then picked them off as they got in their cars.  Not making excuses for him at all (he was stupid and got nailed), pretty hard to believe that knowing what was going on the police told these kids to get in their cars and then busted them when they did  ForJack!.

Like shooting fish in the barrel ROTF

So Hans, I guess its over two years.....that's good......now just get him to take the ASVAB test and see what kind of a score he gets.....  Don't forget to have him take the practice tests that he can do online....OR, the public library also may have some books with some practice tests.  Using the library is good because he doesn't have to give any personal information to get the materials.  But DO take the practice tests....it'll help him to understand what some of the types of quesitons are and being out of school for so long, he's probably a little rusty on some subjects......

I think he signed up for the practice tests the night we talked Zoomer.  Actually, he hasn't been out of school, he's been going to the JC ever since he graduated from high school.

As long as the driving record has been clean since and it was charged as a misdemeanor there should be no problems with him joining.

Didn't think of that.....it would have to be a misdemeanor.  If he was conviced or pleeded to a felony, end of story.  He'll have to get a compy of the court records for proof....they'll want that.

If the recruiter slams the door in his face.....I'll go to the office with him and sit the recruiter down and ruin his day......

Maybe if his steely eyed killer uncle went with him, wearing his CG Combat Vets hat, they wouldn't slam the door.    Shocked   ROTF

I was thinking of doing that Stan, problem is, there's no CG recruiter in the area; if that would help, I'd drive the 60 or 70 miles to do it.

Ok, getting more info:  Happened 05/30/06 (over two years ago), apparently my brother and SIL got an arbitrator and the DUI wording was removed and replaced with "Wet and Reckless"  ForJack!; IOW it's a misdemeanor and (if I understand it right) doesn't even rise to the level of DUI.

Sorry I'm so sketchy about the thing, I didn't even know about it until last week when they called me about the Guard eligibility thing (a family pride issue  Bang head against wall Bang head against wall

In the bars I used to attend, gals that fit that description didn't require any searching.

I don't care what the Bos'n told you, you are NOT authorized to recruit a 17 year old Filipina as your personal TN.
