Guess we're just going to have to keep on educating the masses, Hans! I join with others in rendering my respect and appreciation for active and veteran members of the Coast Guard!

I think the disconnect comes by virtue of the fact that the CG is not DOD but is an Armed Force  ForJack!

Yup, most folks only think about the DOD services.  Of course the CG has not done too good a job over the years in strightening everyon eout on the subject either.  After Nam they kind of shied away from the military role.  Pisses me off regularly.

Thanks for the link Hans, here's my note I sent:

Dear Google Staff,

I'd like to thank you for the Veteran's Day Banner; unfortunately, it appears you have left one of the five armed services off of the banner: The United States Coast Guard (USCG).  As a twenty five year retired Veteran of the USCG, I’m proud of the service I have provided to a grateful nation.  Although not part of the Department of Defense, the United States Coast Guard is one of the five armed services and has participated in EVERY conflict right alongside our fellow service brethren and sisters.

In the future it would be GREAT to see you recognize the USCG as one of our nation’s service veterans.

Respectfully, Lieutenant (Gunner) USCG, Ret,

IMO ... All the uniform changes haven't helped either.
On that Google banner what hat would you use?

I guess we would use one like shown in this photo.

Mine:

Folks,

It's nice to see that you are recognizing the military on Veterans Day.  The bad news is you omitted the United States Coast Guard, America's 5th Armed Service.  As a Coast Guard Vietnam Veteran I tend to get a bit upset when the sacrifices made by Coast Guard personnel, in nearly every war this nation has fought, are overlooked.

Hopefully you can get it right next year.

Regards,

Stan Robbins

Yeah, I thought about that too Ron, but if they were educated there would be five.  I'm not going to loose any sleep over this, just find it interesting  ForJack!

That's a cadet's combination cover... I've worn three of the six different combination covers (Enlisted, Chief & Officer)  I guess the most appropreatte would be the Enlisted Men's Combination Cover.  I could only find the Chief's & Junior Officer's Covers:
