I've got a question on this one
. If you brought up the site, you can see that you can track vessel traffic worldwide. It gives the course, speed, destination (most of the time) of any vessel you click on. It also notes tankers, or cargo ships with "very hazardous" loads; isn't this kind of an invitation for bad things to happen???

Seems to be a direct pipeline of information to terrorists - they really have to work hard to get it, don't they!

I also saw a couple of Coast Guard vessels pop up; isn't that a breach of OPSEC
Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy tracking this stuff around, just questions that pop up

Well if they participate in the AIS system, they get recorded. I suspect however, they have a way to turn it off if they feel the need for extra security on a MSSP or L/E mission.
BTW thanks for the link... a cool toy that I'm sharing with other instructors so we can use more realistic vessel names, types, and locations in the actual AOR of the student we are drilling on SAR cases.
Best Wishes

Being familiar with a couple of the vessels I was referring to earlier, I know that to be a true statement

OK so it took me a while, damn but I do hate dial-up, this is a cool site Hans thanks. My question is what does this website use to track these vessels. I notice that their map shows none of the ships in susian bay and not all the tugs in SF bay. Would be cool if they overlayed the map on Google earth, just my thoughts.

I'd guess the ships in Suisun Bay don't have any of the equipment that is being used to track what you see on the site. All are powered down.
Sonny, educate us....what is the AIS you mentioned?
