In response to Spacecowboys "What are you watching on TV" here is mine question to ya'll. What are you reading now or what have you read recently. I try to read only one book at a time but do sometimes get going on two or even three. but as I finish one I start another right away.
Currently reading:
Rum war a sea- CG history- thanks Bouy for posting that it was for sale on E-bay.
The Colonial experience- early (Pre-Revolution)American history, yes its an older college text book.
Cigars, Whiskey & Winning; Leadership lessons from Gen. Ulysses S. Grant- not a book to be read cover to cover, but pick it up and read a couple of pages randomly.

Recently finished (within the last 2 months):
Agincourt by Bernard Cornwell, a historcial novel
Arguing with idiots by Glenn Beck, not bad but not really my kind of book to read.
The Americanization of Benjamin Franklin by Gordon S. Wood- a very intersting look at the life of one of our founding fathers.
The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown, a novel
All Hands Down by Kenneth Sewell, the true story of the Soviet attack on the USS Scorpion.
The Iliad by Homer, Classical Lit.

In the batters box, or next to be read:
Pirate Latitudes by Michael Crichton
Altas Shrugged by Ayn Rand, this well be a re-read its been about 10 years since I read it the first time.
The Odyssey by Homer

So theres my reading list, Whats yours?

I thought the question was actually going to be what it on your night stand... heh

I read no less then 3 books at a time... its a horrible habit, but I do it because I'm not always in the mood for a specific kind.

Some "cliterature" = Agnes & the Hitman by Jennifer Cruise and Bob Mayer

Some "fantasy" = Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (saw the movies before reading the books and actually liked it...)

Some "horror" = Abarat by Clive Barker (my most favorite author... it used to be Anne Rice, but she's all... different now)

No books on my nightstand (don't have one) - however

In the library (aka bathroom) a couple of science fiction books I can read a chapter at a time while multi-tasking... last one was Logan's Run
In the living room - to read while spending quality time with Mahal (who is watching some T.V. show I'm not interested in) - a Reader's Digest
Condensed Book - (4 condensed books into one volume) - whatever they send me every other month.
On my desk at work - to read during lunch time or down time - Post Conservative America by Kevin P. Phillips - a re-read to see how close he came to predicting what the future would look like post Reagan era.

Generally -
Science Fiction, especially by the masters like Henilen, Assimov & company
Historical/Action fiction - detective/military novels such as W.E.B. Griffin's Army/USMC/Police Dept series, and
Political books

Best Wishes

At my age I avoid meaningful books.  I might discover I have screwed up for my whole life.   Grin

So mostly I read novels.  Too many to list.  Authors range from C.J. Box to James Hall (just finished Hell's Bay) to Patricia Cornwell, Bernard Cornwell (read Agincourt recently) and a bunch of others.  I read 4-5 books per week, one at a time.

Even when I worked I managed to go through a few books a week.  Read 'em during lunch, plus at home in the evenings.

I don't read alot(why pretend otherwise?) but i have gotten to page 60 on sarah palins Going Rogue and american life.
My daughter bought it for me as a gag gift.
But i actually like it.
I can relate to dutch harbor and her upbringing a little bit.
My parents were hillbillys from West (by GOD) Virgina and Ohio so hunting and fishing is,nt exactly foriegn to me.

She also talks about some oil spills..btdt not the exxon one she is talking about but  a small one off kodiac .
sinbad or mudcup i believe on here knows the one i am talking about , he was on the sherman with me at the time.

I usally hate fiction i do like biographys and i like the other side of the mountain a true story about a kid who ran away to the catskills in NY to live.

I have also read Andy Rooneys book sweet & sour ..i relate to him too a little sad to because everyone i talk to thinks he is a sad little cinic i hope i don't come across that way.

Received my copy of "Ocean Station" on Saturday and started reading it that evening, must say that it is a very good presentation of the ocean station program. For those out there that never had the pleasure of making  an ocean station check it out to see what life was like in the "Old Guard" - the author provides some information on the research that resulted in Loran A and led to Loran C.
