Hey everyone!

I want to buy a website (very informational, I know), but I'm unsure where to start. I've gone to Godaddy.com and the one I want is available, but its asking me for all these extra things to buy, like Economy or Deluxe Web Hosting, certifying your domain, and whether I want extra "protection", etc etc.

Advice???

It really is a great idea and I want to roll with it - low cost right now - but possibly profit from it in the future (sponsors etc). I know a lot of folks try to do this sort of thing, but this idea I think will appeal to A LOT of the women 25 - 50 y/o that nothing really like this reaches out to.

Thanks for ANY help!!!

GoDaddy is a nice easy place to get started if you want to make your own web site.

When you're making a web site, there are two things you need (which GoDaddy helps you with): domain name registration and site hosting.

Domain name registration is usually the cheapest part of the whole thing. If you do it through a 3rd party, it could cost about $10-15/year or less. While I'm not sure what GoDaddy is calling "extra protection", I think it might be offering to put a special flag to "lock" the registration so that no one is able to even ask to take it from you. (There is a mechanism where someone can request a domain name from you, but you don't have to give it to them.)

Site hosting is actually putting your stuff on a server connected to the Internet, and having the domain name point to that server. Basically, GoDaddy has a box connected to the Internet that you can put your stuff on. This is what costs the $15-30/month or thereabouts, because you're literally renting space on someone else's box. Economy hosting on GoDaddy gives you the bare-bones minimum, which is all you need if you're just making a site for people to go and see your stuff. I'm not 100% sure what deluxe gives you, but it likely includes the ability to have more space available and an ASP type system so you can make a website like Amazon or something.

JO .... What I have not seen anybody ask is what is it that you want your website to do?

I had a GoDaddy website that I shut down because I found that my 180 Veterans Group at the CG Channel Community worked just fine for what I had intended and that was to reconnect with former shipmates and to share photos, videos, and 180 experiences.

Will you be selling subscriptions to you "web-zine" or are you looking to make money with advertising?

A little of both... ideally we'd like to make the cost for the site via advertising (at this point we're really not looking for a 'profit') but when we build it up we'll have "paid subscriptions" for parts of the webzine (specifically the 18 and over part)

I'd probably get a higher-end product then, which should be able to give you some tools to help you out.

Yeah - it more geared towards women... but I think men would like it as well.
