Ok, you tell me.  Was reading web news tonight and saw this headline in large, bold type:

Quote
Republicans block youth immigration bill

Ok, til Jan, the Dems have a clear majority in both the Senate and the House; how the hell can the Republicans, alone, block this bill ??  Am I just plain stupid, or am I missing something??  ForJack!

Simple answer; Bush is doing it by using his Katrina weather machine.

What confuses ME even more is that I haven't heard anything about a "Youth Immigration Bill".
There IS a "Reward Illegal Aliens Who Have Evaded the Law Long Enough to Raise Children to College Age" bill.
Surely that wouldn't be what they are talking about.

I don't care what the Bos'n told you, you are NOT authorized to recruit a 17 year old Filipina as your personal TN.

It's known as Obama's.. because he put together the package of Bush-era tax cuts along with some typical wasteful spending earmarks (calling it a "compromise")... and it's going to cost $857 billion.

Nearly five billion is for subsidies for ethanol (which is crap for your car.. btw.)
More goodies for the tree huggers in the form of wind and solar.
Tax incentives for the production of bio-diesel fuel, coal, hybrid cars.. etc.

But wait.. it gets better

Tax credits to Hollywood producers
Tax breaks for rum production in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands
Special accounting procedures for entertainment complexes like NASCAR

and of course... the extension of unemployment insurance for another 13 months.

Hurry up and die if you have a big estate, because this provision brings back the Death Tax for estates over $5 million dollars. That's not really that much when you consider someone who owns, for example, a farm. What's taxed isn't just land, but homes, jewelry, cars, stock options, life insurance payouts, collectables.. you name it. That's taxed at 35%.

Forewatch....outstanding summary Thumbs Up

This was the "Dream Act".  Would have allowed the children of illegal immigrants who had graduated from a U.S. highschool to attend college....if they did two years in the military or two years of public service.  It was a "Big Wish" in California...thank goodness its DEAD Thumbs Up
