All. Welcome to usmilnet...
First and foremost, as this site supports the military, active and former members of the military community need to feel somewhat safe in expressing their varied views as posters. As that community is composed of both genders, as well as all races and religions, it should come as no great surprise that they also maintain differing political viewpoints. Since these views can swing between the extremes of the “Super Patriot” right to the “Ultra Liberal” left, any issue raised on this forum is likely to create heated debate. Eliminating Moderates and Libertarians, there are many more “Rightwing” than “Leftwing” nut-jobs here, so most of the opining is somewhat slanted to the “Right”, and those unfortunates on the “Left” become targets, branded as “trolls" or worse. They aren't. They merely have different viewpoints. Keep in mind that most all members here are Americans, and we all served in the same military.
Remember we're in a war, so OPSEC and PERSEC must be in the forefront of every member's mind. Do not reveal any names, unit strengths or locations, or any specific pertinent information concerning our Sons, Daughters, Brothers and Sisters currently serving in the sandbox. Additionally, keep your personal information to a minimum, as there are those who will abuse such information. OPSEC is operational security. PERSEC is personal security. Any thread or post containing any OPSEC or PERSEC violation or those which are obviously hateful (racist), obscene or pornographic will be immediately locked and/or deleted.
From the Terms Of Use (TOU) acknowledged by every member to participate on this site:
"You agree, through your use of this forum, that you will not post any material which is false, defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, adult material, or otherwise in violation of any International or United States Federal law. You also agree not to post any copyrighted material unless you own the copyright or you have written consent from the owner of the copyrighted material. Spam, flooding, advertisements, chain letters, pyramid schemes, and solicitations are also forbidden on this forum."
To expand and more clearly define that statement, here are some conditions to avoid: Disruptive Posting: >>>>Any posting, whether intentional or not, which creates any condition causing or inciting extreme negative reaction from the members. This includes trollish behavior, whereby posts are designed to create intentional disruption.
Flaming: >>>>Arguments can get heated, and a limited amount of ranting is expected. When those rantings turn into ravings, and attacks on other members result in down-right nastiness, complete with abusive cursing, that's flaming. Control your emotions, and don't get caught up in the "piling on" that usually results.
Threats: >>>> Any threat directed to a member's person or property is treated as a serious violation. "Calling out" a member, or inviting him to a confrontation falls under this condition. Also any threats referencing exposure of privacy are included.
Hateful Speech: >>>>Our Military is composed of members of all races and religions. Any rascist epithets or statements are expressly taboo. Attacks on any religion are to be likewise treated. All members bleed the same color. All members worship as they choose.
Advertising & Solicitation: >>>>This site was created as a board for Americans to support their Military, not as a vehicle for selling Amway or sex-toys. Support is not defined as solicitation nor advertising. Only solicitation or advertising for patriotic or worthy causes is acceptable. It is suggested that a ruling be obtained prior to posting.
Cut & Pasting: >>>>Some is C & P is necessary and expected. However, anything can be taken to extremes. Members here are encouraged to express their own ideas, not those of some favorite commentator. Try to avoid a reputation as a "Cut and Past Queen".
Anti-American Sentiments: >>>>If you came here to bash the country, it's citizens or it's Military, you're in the wrong place. Such sentiments are totally out of character with the mission statement of usmilnet. Those postings will be considered trollish behavior.
Respect of the Office of CIC: >>>>"Argue and disagree with the policies of the administration at will, but remember the President of the United States is the Commander In Chief. The current Commander In Chief holds the highest office in the land and due respect shall be afforded him/her. Posting slurs, demeaning names, epithets, and other terminology that denigrate the current Commander In Chief are unacceptable."
Posers and Wannabes: >>>>Posers are not to be tolerated. Any member discovered to have falsified rank or claim unearned decorations will suffer immediate and permanent termination. This includes Screen names. If you're not a Ranger, don't say you're "Rangertobe".
Newbie Probation: >>>>Shoot-on-sight orders are issued for trolls and/or any new poster with less than 50 posts who seemingly evokes an agenda or is any way disruptive.
Cutting some slack on "disruptive" postings is based on rank and longevity: >>>> A "pecking order" has been initiated in respect to moderator application of discipline involving disruptive posting of any nature. The nature of "slack" given is predicated on the post total system and on highest military rank achieved
In ascending order, the following categories can be suspended or terminated at any time for disruptive infractions: > Civilian, of any longevity; FNG, military profile (under 50 posts).
These categories may be given stated cautions or warnings for disruptive infractions prior to taking disciplinary action: > Military profile, FNG; Military profile, marksman and above; Military profile, marksman and above and BTDT.
These categories must be given stated cautions or warnings for disruptive infractions prior to taking disciplinary action: > Military profile, expert with rank; Military profile, expert with rank and BTDT.
For definition, "rank" is any senior NCO E-7 or above; any officer field grade and above. BTDT is any member with combat awards or decorations, or one who has served in a hostile theater in an active and hazardous capacity. "Disruptive posting" is any post considered a TOU violation, one uncomplimentary to the office of Commander in Chief, or any post adversely affecting the members. "Disciplinary action" is a suspension for any period of time.
Posting rank or "Karma" is as follows ; 0 to 49 posts; FNG. 50 to 99 posts; Marksman. 100 to 249 posts; Sharpshooter. 250 to 499 posts; Expert. 500 to 4999 posts Master Blaster. 5000 to 10,000 posts; Expert Master Blaster.
Site Navigation: >>>>There are few blue buttons in horizontal order across the top of your screen. HOME. HELP. SEARCH. PROFILE. LOGOUT. Select "HELP" and follow the directions.
Command Structure: >>>>Authority to enforce these regulations and answer any question is vested in four different levels of the chain of command: Executive Officers or XO's; Command NCO's; Staff NCO's; and Line NCO's. Publicly questioning their rulings and decisions is highly inadvisable.
