If someone uses an ISP that uses dynamic IP addressing, such as providers that have dialup connections, then resetting the modem or just logging off and logging back on would most likely cause the ISP to assign a different IP address.  However, both addresses (the one before and after logging off, resetting modem, etc) would resolve to the same internet provider.

I can think of a couple of other ways to get around an IP ban besides proxies, but I will refrain from talking about them publicly.

"Account is awaiting approval for deletion" That means that Conch Coastie has requested that his account  be deleted.

That's why I'm sure it's not TB...

Ah!  Interesting.  On the other hand, he did the exact same thing on mil.com when he knew he was getting bounced.

Spoofing IP's is not hard and gammers do it all the time (for double play).  If you google IP Spoofing, you get over 500k hits, it's no big secret.  Roll Eyes

Gamers do it for double play? Damn I'm getting old, I have no idea what double play is. Undecided

JA: I believe it means logging into a game as two people from the same computer - so they can cheat.  Of course to them it's not cheating.  I could be wrong though....

Sounds right Tim, I also checked that with my Warcraft playing 14 year old.

We have a winner.. TIM..  Bravo

It's used for cheating, at least that's what I tell my 16 year old but to him, it's just having a "tatical advantage". Heck, how many of us ever searched the net for DOOM or Duke-Nukem cheats?

People also use them when visiting "un-ethical" websites too. Makes it a little harder if not impossible to trace-route ones location.

There are "patches" for some games that sniffs out double players but it's hard to do if they are spoofing both addressess. To me, it's more trouble then it's worth. I don't play anything online anyway. Tried it once. It was a Delta Force game. Took my sniper rifle, entered the game, took all of 1 minute for me to get terminated by a sniper. Figured the best way to enter that war was from far outside the zone, then hump it in. Lasted much longer that time but still got zap'd. Next time I'll just stick to what I'm good at. Radios..  Ninja
