Ron,

Thanx for the leg work on the videos. If I'd been paying more attention ,I'd have been back over here earlier.

Those CG Channel folks are busy and who knows, it will show up again somewhere.

Here's something you'd never see in the "New Guard"; SK2 Abbey and BM2 Frieberg sitting on the pyro box with lit butts in their hands  LMAO.  Sorry, I'm not sure of the HM1's name to the right of the picture, I think it was Alvarez  Bang head against wall, I should remember his name, he helped me with some "issues" from time to time  .

Sea story time, this is no ****:  Picked up a "fisherman" floating in the Delta one time with a serious leg wound (by floating I mean his body); kinda suspected he was VC but never really knew.  All the guy could speak was Vietnamese and French, we didn't have an interpreter on board for Vietnamese, but we fooled him, the HM1 spoke French, so we could interrogate him.  Us peones never did find out what it was all about  ForJack!  Turned him over to the Army.

Wish I had a picture of this instance:

I was a SN on the Taney, striking GM.  The GMC had me repainting depth charges.  So I'm sitting on this DC which is loaded with 190 pounds of cast TNT, pounding on it with a chipping hammer while smoking a cigarette......   ROTF ROTF

Posted on the Coast Guard Channel Community

FROM:  Gregory Steven Hackworth
TO:  All USCG personnel who served in Vietnam

Quote
To all that served in Vietnam, if you have been denied benifits for illnesses related to your service in Vietnam there is a bill in congress right now HR 2254 called the Vietnam Veterans Agent Orange Equity Act of 2009. This bill was introduced and sponsored by 116 congressman.

It is currently in committee and expected to come out of commitee and onto the floor of the House in late September. If you can please call your congressmen and tell them you want them to support HR 2254. Some of you might be thinking that this has nothing to do with me I feel great and wasn't exposed 'WRONG".

The Government has just acknowledged that all the water made aboard ships was contaminated in Vietnam and surrounding Islands for drinking, bathing and cooking. Yes you have been exposed and maybe it hasn't hit yet, but it will trust me. The desalinazation units used on American, Australian, and New Zealand Ships were all the same and once the contaminated sea water was taken in the unit it would be there for the next 30 years. Everytime new water was made the agent orange chemical got stronger.

If you need more info I have lots just let me know.....Greg

My buddy Sam (QM2 Sam Green) sent me some pictures today of the old Blackhaw days.  I think that I've mentioned before that when we were at actual GQ there really was no time to take pictures; so, this is obviously some practice shots.  This is what shooting an M-60 from a buoy tender looked like, notice the spare barrel off to the right, the old M-60's were notorious for the barrel over-heating, so you always kept a spare near by  Grin

Another picture that Sam sent me today; here's photographic remembrance of the event:

BTW, notice how excited we got about these things, you'll see one SA on the focs'l with a weapon covering the guy (kinda)  LMAO

On Monday April 12, 2010 the Coast Guard family received
word from BMCM Mark D. "Mac" McKenney USCG Ret. that
the hero of the Point Welcome friendly fire incident had passed
over the bar.

Here is Chief Patterson's interview with the COAST GUARD CHANNEL a few
years ago on the Point Welcome friendly fire incident.

I haven't been too fond of the Air Force since this happened.  Got into quite a row in Iraq with an ex-AF type I worked with.

If any of you folks want to refresh your memories about Squadron 3 and what it was like in Vietnam I found a cool page. Scroll down a bit and read the "Barker Chronicles".

http://coastguard.dodlive.mil/index.php/2010/07/history-cgc-minnetonka-in-vietnam/

Clicking on the links within the article is interesting too, as is reading the comments posted by others.
