I don't have an issue with their surrender.
I do have an issue with the female's statements.

My first thought on that was that she may have been told by her superior to say that just so they could get her out of there.  We'll probably never know.

I agree with your earlier post too.  Article II of the Code of Conduct explicitly explains when it is appropriate to be "captured"...and it's really just a way to call it something other then surrender.

I find it pretty funny that the ones arguing with me are 1) One guy who does not believe the CG should be involved in "combat operations" (and he's  a retired Coastie!) 2) and the other guy is anonymous but you can tell he was never in the CG.

Of course what we don't know is what orders the C.O. of the frigate had, who he might have communicated with or what orders he gave those crews.

Those Iranians have some nasty ass patrol boats, but I checked out the frigate too and it looks like that ship could have dealt with the issue if the C.O. had been allowed to do so.
Although even a well armed frigate may have had a tough time against six of them, all armed with SSM's.

Hard to say....we just don't have enough of the story.  Pisses me off though.

Definetly the wise thing to do is not create a worse scenario (no win).  I think it's important to remember that you have to be in the situation to fully understand it. It's like the snot nosed little brother continually poking at your friends...eventially someone is going to snap.

I do wish diplomacy would work...but I also know that wish is just that.  If they keep poking with sticks sooner or later they are going to have their stick broken.

This may have been a probe, but it was an incursion type of probe. We have satellites and GPS readings that confirm they were in Iraqi territorial waters. If anything, Iran violated Iraqi waters to do the snatch and grab. The ROE has become too ****ed up and I think that's why the Brits didn't defend themselves or had their ship be able to do it.
