I was honored to be invited to the graduation of FS A School class 07 07 by Chef Randy.  Can't tell you how impressed I was.  If I throw out any barbs about "old Guard"/"new Guard" they are meant in jest; I'm here to tell you that the young men and women graduating were just as enthusiastic and squared away as we were in our day.  As an OBTW, I was amazed to see that out of a graduating class of 20 at least 80% of them drew sea duty  Bravo.  So here's a  \Smiley to the new FS's, Chef Randy and the rest of the staff and an assurance that Guardsmen/Women in the field look like they will be well cared for  Ready to Eat USCG Flag.

Wow,

I was just talking to a good buddy of mine this past week and he told me he was headed out to see his son graduate from FS “A” School.  He's a proud active duty Mustang LT and took some time off to attend the graduation.  What a small world after all.

Thanks for taking care of them Chef Randy!  BZ   Bravo

I saw the LT there but didn't talk to him.  It is a small world.  If I heard right, he's a prior FT.

Yep, we were both Gunner’s.  He was my relief at one unit; we both had a different approach to getting the job done with the same results. Couldn’t ask for a better shipmate.   \Smiley

It was good to see you there this morning and a pleasure to meet you. The class that graduated this morning was one of the best that we have seen in awhile, not that the other classes weren't good just that this class pulled together from the start and held it together throughout school. It is days like today that make me glad that I am an instructor.
I just hope that the class that my son is in is just as good,he will be going through FS school in a couple months, he is in Cape May right now on his second week of boot camp.

I could really make a denigrating joke about now, but for peace & harmony between the Navy & Coast Guard, I won't.

What is an FS ??

Food Service Specialist.  In our day we called em Cooks.  At least they're still around as opposed to QM's    If you go to "Coast Guard Chow" in the CG section Thor you'll find some interesting reading, especially an article that Randy linked to.  These guys aren't the "old school" cooks; quite accomplished.

We had two Filipino Cooks, a 1st and a 2nd.  Funniest thing, when it got rough they both didn't feel too good and got pissed off.  So to get even with the world they'd do greasy, grilled pork chops and hit the rack.  I was usually one of three to sit and eat  ROTF ROTF (I don't get seasick, never have, very lucky).  We also had an open galley, the combination was great; if you didn't like what's for dinner, you waited until chow time was over and then cooked your own  Thumbs Up.

The Coast Guard has a proud tradition of GOOD food. I have always enjoyed good food, so some of my best friends in the CG were cooks and stewards. My father was a cook in the Navy (Seabees) during WWII, and I can take care of myself in a galley, so I am very happy to hear that we still have some people preserving our traditions.

I don't care what the Bos'n told you, you are NOT authorized to recruit a 17 year old Filipina as your personal TN.

For those of you that don't know what T-Rats are, think of Stouffer's, but invert the flavor. Think about cubed omelets.
