John 15:3, “Greater love has no one than this that he lay down his life for his friends.” (NIV)

When I was growing up there were many heroes to admire, such as Wonder Woman, Superman, and Lassie, the dog wonder. There was always someone to look up to, whether they were a family member, teacher, or a great fiction character. The people who we admired inspired us to be better, reach higher, and to achieve the impossible. Today, however, I can’t help but wonder, “Who are today's heroes ?”

Corporal Tyler Trovillion ... 23, of Richardson, Texas.

Corporal Trovillion died when his vehicle hit an improvised explosive device while conducting combat operations near Ar Ramadi, Iraq. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, their unit was operating with the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division of the U.S. Army, which was attached to 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward). Died on June 15, 2005.

Tyler's Mom and Dad are members at my church in Plano, Texas and I was honored to be the head usher for his funeral.  It was a fitting memorial service for this young Marine to see his casket be carried out by his fellow marines.  TRIBUTE (Click Here)

We who have seen war will never stop seeing it, in the silence of the night we will always hear the screams. So this is our story... For we were soldiers once and young.
