Look like they ought to be working on the flight line; don't look like friggin sailors  Tantrum

I agree.  Sailors wearing pants bloused into boots?  I keep asking why and have yet to receive an answer other then "It helps us perform the mission."

Oh yeah?  How about when you fall over the side in that outfit.  Swimming will be a tad difficult.  With the old dungarees (bell bottoms) you could easily kick off your boondockers, pull off the pants and make 'em into water wings.

The only thing that comes to my mind is the possibility of an NBC attack. I know that during ALL GQ drills we had to do that or tape up the bottom of our trousers. It allegedly kind of seals off the body from some stuff. I ditched my boondockers as soon as I could and got flight boots.

Folks...
Said I already posted this but I sure can't see it... try again...

Here's the last pic I have of me (thanks to my son scanning it for me)... I also have an A and C School pic but they are too large to attach... how do I work around that?

Best Wishes

Commander (Salba), From your usmilnet "Post reply" board do the following:

1.  First, open a new TAB or Browser and go to IMAGE SHACK (Click Here) or to PHOTO BUCKET (Click Here) and follow their instructions on hosting your photo image FREE on their website.

NOTE:  PHOTOS SHOULD BE FORMATTED FOR 640 X 480 (for message boards) so there may be a resize box you need to check.

2.  I hosted your image on photo bucket and the url they gave for your image is http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/5103/cdrsalbanm7.jpg

3.  Next on your "Reply Board" at the top left under "Message icon" in the lower row of options the second button from the left looks like a little tiny picture.  Left click on that little picture icon and this will appear in the body of your post ....  [ img]

4.  Next go to the TAB or Browser for whatever photo host your using.  Left click ... drag and copy that url and return to your "Post reply" page.

5.  Next in between the first [ img] and the second paste your copied image url between them.
It should look like this:  [ img]http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/5103/cdrsalbanm7.jpg

6.  Next Click on Post and your photo will appear on your post with your text.

Buoy:

Thanks.  I'm learning.  First couple of attempts no joy... but starting to get hang of it.

Folks:
Previous photo - towards end of career as O-4.  This photo, as E-6, in real sailor uniform back in the day, at about 6 year point.  Enjoy. Laughing allowed!

Best Wishes
P.S. I'm top row, last on right hand side with dixie cup.

Alright Dave ... now ya got it!  Nice photos ... Glad I could help you out!  I love officers that came up through the ranks.  My last CO, the late CDR Gordon ****man came up through the ranks and he knew what it was like and while each of us had tremendous respect for Mr. ****man, there was a closeness there that we just never felt with officers that didn't come up through the ranks.

Yeah Hans it was ... one of the saddest days outta my four on the Mesquite was when
we had to say "goodbye" to CDR. ****man. Commander ****man left the Mesquite to head
up AtoN in Vietnam.  I still have contact with his son and wife.

I'll be damned; worked a lot with CDR ****man, great guy.  Actually, I volunteered for a one year stint working with him out of the Saigon office and was accepted and ready to transfer.  A problem on the home front changed those plans; not a real serious problem, but I was in a position to have the orders changed.  Another one of those things I would have done different if I could rewind the clock.   \Smiley to CDR ****man, a good guy.

When Mr. ****man came to the Mesquite he had 19 years in.  He had been a QM before going to OCS in 1956.  He came to the Mesquite after three years at DHQ Cleveland as OIC Regulatory Section, Boating Safety Branch.  Prior to that Mr. ****man had been the XO on the ACACIA in Port Huron, WLB-406.  So he had had 180 experience when he came to the Mesquite and boy did it show.  He was one hellava ship driver.  I was the only deck ape SN (not a QM striker) he'd let drive the Mesquite through the two bridges in Sturgeon Bay, the RR Bridge and the Highway Bridge.  I LOVED IT!  In the first photo above the officer's heads onboard the Mesquite is ET1 Gordy Angermeier who had come to the 305 from Vietnam.  Gordy had been stationed on the Point Clear (82315) and the Point Cypress (82326).

How does one go about converting slides to digital images?

Salba, after looking at your photos (the O4 whites nice pic Commander, looking mighty squared away .. still got your sword?) got me to thinking.  I was saying to Mrs Buoy just the other day when I got up to get the kids off to school and I went and looked in the mirror and I didn't know who that was that was staring back at me.  This guy has a big bulbous nose, I don't, mine is a nice slim nose that fits my face, where did this nose come from?  Who would do such a thing and when did it happen??  This stranger looking back at me has saggy man-breasts, not me I fit n' trim.  Then I see this face looking back at me has pock marks on the right cheek from shingles, no hair growing on top of the head, just in places where hair shouldn't be growing like out of the nose and and ears, this face, it can't be my face, I don't have crows feet at the sides of my eyes.  Then reality sets in and I realize that the face looking back at me is mine.  Oh to be young again in body but to know what I know now ... now that would be a fantasy of all fantasies.  THIS DREAMER SENDS ... Stay young at heart, it betrays all time and overcomes the wrinkles.
