Thumbs Up   We Coastie veterans wanted to give a big thumbs up to the men and women of our service, the U.S. Coast Guard.  The mission you have today has changed some from the mission we had back in the day when some of us old geezers served, but it still takes the same commitment and dedication to excellence in serving the people of our great country.  To all of you who serve today from us old guard Coasties we'd like to say:

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE, YOU ARE A CREDIT TO YOUR UNIFORM AND TO OUR SERVICE!  Semper Paratus, you're ACES with us.

With MUCH respect  Flag Salute

Semper Paratus (Always Ready)
The United States Coast Guard Theme Song

From North and South and East and West,
The Coast Guard's in the fight.
Destroying subs and landing troops,
The Axis feels our might.
For we're the first invaders,
On every fighting field.
Afloat, ashore, on men and Spars,
You'll find the Coast Guard shield.

We're always ready for the call,
We place our trust in Thee.
Through howling gale and shot and shell,
To win our victory.
"Semper Paratus" is our guide,
Our pledge, our motto, too.
We're "Always Ready," do or die!
Aye! Coast Guard, we fight for you.

From Aztec shore to Arctic zone,
To Europe and Far East.
The Flag is carried by our ships,
In times of war and peace.
And never have we struck it yet,
In spite of foe-men's might,
Who cheered our crews and cheered again,
For showing how to fight.

We're always ready for the call,
We place our trust in Thee.
Through howling gale and shot and shell,
To win our victory.
"Semper Paratus" is our guide,
Our pledge, our motto, too.
We're "Always Ready," do or die!
Aye! Coast Guard, we fight for you.

SURVEYOR and NARCISSUS,
The EAGLE and DISPATCH,
The HUDSON and the TAMPA
The names are hard to match;
From Barrow's shores to Paraguay,
Great Lakes or ocean's wave,
The Coast Guard fought through storms and winds
To punish or to save.

We're always ready for the call,
We place our trust in Thee.
Through howling gale and shot and shell,
To win our victory.
"Semper Paratus" is our guide,
Our pledge, our motto, too.
We're "Always Ready," do or die!
Aye! Coast Guard, we fight for you.

Aye, we've been "Always Ready"
To do, to fight, or die
Write glory to the shield we wear
In letters to the sky.
To sink the foe or save the maimed
Our mission and our pride
We'll carry on 'til Kingdom Come
Ideals for which we've died.

We're always ready for the call,
We place our trust in Thee.
Through howling gale and shot and shell,
To win our victory.
"Semper Paratus" is our guide,
Our pledge, our motto, too.
We're "Always Ready," do or die!
Aye! Coast Guard, we fight for you.

Thumbs Up  Watched the first two; great stuff.  Must be the surfer in me, never get tired of the surf boat shots.  For my own reasons (not good ones) I got out, but I was ready to ship over.  When I had my ship-over talk with the Commander, me going to MLB school at Coos Bay was part of the deal.  But, you can never forget the  part of the mission.

  USCG Flag

Over the last 12 or so years, have met several of the "young" guys in Key West. Not only have they always been gentlemen and extremely nice....they are real cutie pies!

Being I was in the aviation part of the Coast Guard and live on the New Jersey shore I get to see a lot of our helos flying over my house heading to help someone in distress. After more than 45 years, I still get a pang of excitement knowing that I used to be in their situation. I am a bit jealous about the neat equipment our men and women have available to them today.
The young people of today are a sharp bunch and a credit to the "Guard." They are as dedicated and proud of what they do as we were back in the days. My hats off to them for the job they are doing, no matter what it may be.
They make all us old Coasties proud to know that the Coast Guard we knew and loved is in very capable hands. The uniforms and the missions may change, but, the dedication to duty and tradition will always be there.  \Smiley

Well, give them a few more years and they may be able to break that nasty "gentlemen and extremely nice" habit.  And a few bar fights should resolve that whole "cutie pie" accusation!

Sheesh....."extremely nice......cuties pies" ....that's just SO wrong to call sailors that..... AARRGGHH LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO

I'm old and there's all the semi-naked college girls in Key West.....the current "Boys" are the same as the "Old Guard" not to worry....

We didn't practice age discrimination when Hans and I were in......mature women had as much to fear as any other age women when the Coasties were on the prowl....
